General Information for Prospective Referees
In order to be a referee for the Aroostook Huskies Football Club a person must complete the following:
Sign up for an Official's Membership on usafootball.com (this will cost you $25/year)
Complete the Officials' courses (Fundamentals of Officiating Youth Football and Mechanics of Officiating Youth Tackle Football), print out your certificates and provide copies to the current President of the Board of Directors (this step provides you valuable liability insurance coverage in addition to that provided by our program as long as you remain a member of USA Football)
Be willing to spend some time reviewing relevant materials in the USA Football website in order to improve your knowledge and skills
Be willing to participate in training programs provided locally by the Aroostook Huskies Football Club
By August 15th of the current season, the schedules for home games willl be posted; at that time, please let the Board know which weekends you will be available
If you are scheduled for a game and are unable to fulfill your obligation, you agree to use our available pool of referees (provided to each referee at the beginning of the season) to arrange for your own substitute
Aroostook Huskies Football Club will provide you with a hat, official's jersey, whistle, penalty flag, extra marker beanbag, down indicator (all yours to keep) and a current year's rulebook
Because of the terms of our liability coverage, we can only use referees who volunteer to provide this service to us; we are not permitted to pay our game officials (an official who wishes to be paid can be paid $35/game as long as he/she provides evidence of his/her own liability insurance equal to our coverage - it has been our experience that the cost of such coverage is far more than the stipend earned in the course of a season)
